Mom's Wit
by Janet H. Brown

I've been very busy this summer and it seems as if it hasn't slowed down yet. My daughter's softball travel league kept us busy for a few weeks this summer.  She really enjoyed playing with the Vestal Comets as it may be her last year to play softball.

I attended my 30-year class reunion for Tioga Central School - go ahead, do the math, I graduated in what year? The reunion was held at Tioga Central High School during the  Alumni Association's annual meeting. It was like stepping back into time if just for a few hours that night. I saw people from my old neighborhood. It  was great to see everyone. I especially enjoyed watching everyone meeting each other for the first time in years. Their faces would light up and conversation wasn't just talk,  at times it became very intense with hugs, and hearty hand shakes. People were listening and laughing at the same time. After dinner and the meeting we had the grand tour of the school, I am proud to be a graduate of Tioga Central.

Our daughter went to Canada in July with her church youth group for World Youth Day 2002.  She was gone for seven days and during that time I decided to tear down the wall paper in her bedroom and  paint the walls. But the hot, hot weather came and I didn't accomplish anything. Her room was still torn apart when she came home so she had to sleep on the couch! Finally, I got help. My husband couldn't stand it anymore, especially when he stubbed his toe on a piece of her bedroom furniture which was stored in the hallway. He painted the walls with  primer and then the yellow paint. I  finished the job, with the help of her aunt, by sponge painting blue and green on the yellow walls. Her bedroom looks like a typical teenager's room. She has blue shower curtains with frogs printed on them for her windows, along with frog shower hooks hanging on the rods. Cool.

We continued to go in a fast forward mode. It didn't slow down when school started. I thought we would get back into the school routine. Nope. You see after the first week of school she had her 16th birthday and her Daddy took her to the Motor Vehicle Department for her driver's  permit. She passed. She passed the test. Pray for me, because the last time I rode with her she took the curve a little too fast.
