Apalachin Fire
Department
by Mary Ann Cascarino, AFD Chief
• EMS Update
The Apalachin Fire Department (AFD) is in the process of contracting
with the Village of Owego for an EMS crew to be stationed in our District
from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, Mondays through Fridays. This will assure that
you have immediate response should an EMS emergency occur in your household.
We anticipate this contract to be in place by November. AFD will continue
to provide volunteer coverage for our squad calls evenings and weekends.
• Open House
Please join us on Saturday, October 12, 11:30 to 2:00 pm and
check out our apparatus and equipment. Learn more about your firefighters,
who we are and how we operate. We'll have demonstrations, refreshments,
displays, door prizes, safety brochures, and freebies. Questions? Call
Ruth Kunz, 625-5011.
• Help a Hydrant Program
We're always looking for civic minded residents who would be
willing to "adopt-a-hydrant," which means they would keep it clear of snow
in the winter months and check for cracks or missing parts from time to
time. We presently have nearly 70 volunteers do this, but we also have
over 200 hydrants. Any takers? Call 625-2790, leave your name and
phone number if you would like to sign up or have any questions.
• AFD Woven Cotton Throw
This 48" x 70" 100% cotton throw is available to you for $30.00.
You can see a sample of it at Station 1, 230 Pennsylvania Avenue any Wednesday
evening between 7 and 9 pm. If you like it, sign up to receive one just
in time for Christmas. Orders are due by November 7. Questions? Call
625-2790.
• New Members Welcome
Stop by Station 1 any Wednesday between 7:00 and 9:00 pm for
an application or to have your questions answered. Any firefighter would
be happy to speak with you.
You Depend on us ~ We depend on you.
