Kids Night Out 1st Birthday Party
Kids Night Out, 1st Birthday Party, will be held on Saturday, May 19, at The Creamery in Nichols. There will be a DJ, door prizes and raffles, entertainment, games, contests, free pizza, soda, and birthday cake. Donations are accepted, but not required. Come on over and see what the kids are doing. This event is sponsored by the Rainbow Lioness and benefits the Kirby Playground Project.

Help Mow Seniors' Lawns
Spring has just begun and grass is growing quickly. Tioga Opportunities, Inc., Department of Aging Services is receiving calls for help from some Tioga County senior citizens who do not have anyone to help with their lawn work.

Aging Services is creating a list of people willing to help with lawn work for money or on a voluntary basis. If you are willing to mow the lawn of a senior citizen in your neighborhood, please call Eleanor Dibble at 687-4120, Ext. 319, to be added to the list.
 

New Manager of Emporium Shows

The Owego Elks Lodge has announced that lodge member Glenn Miller is the new manager of its Emporium Antiques and Collectibles shows. The Elks Emporium has been presenting the shows for 26 years, on the first and third Sundays, from 7:00 am until 3:00 pm, throughout the year. There is no admission charge. Antiques and collectibles vendors are invited to participate. Call 687-6892 for more information.

Chicken BBQ May 12 in NV

The First United Methodist Church of Newark Valley will hold its 6th Annual Chicken BBQ on Saturday, May 12, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. Menu includes 1/2 chicken, homemade baked beans, homemade cole slaw, roll, and cookies. Tickets are $6.00. Pre-sale tickets are available. Eat in or take out. For tickets, call Ken Davis, 642-9955, or the church, 642-8811 (Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00 am until 11:00 am).
Proceeds will support the church, which is at 70 S. Main Street (Route 38) in Newark Valley.

Don't miss this year's annual Tioga Terrace Garage Sale! This popular event will take place on Saturday, May 19. Stop by and check out the bargains! Tioga Terrace is off Route 434 in Apalachin.

Glenn Miller Graduates
Glenn Patterson Miller, Jr., son of Glenn and Harriet Miller of Owego, has graduated magna cum laude from the University of Buffalo with a major in Chemistry.

Glenn is a 1994 graduate of Newark Valley High School. He attended Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey, and the Simmons Institute of Mortuary Science in Syracuse from which he graduated with honors. He is a licensed funeral director in New York State.

Glenn is married to the former Luana Olivera of Brazil, who is also graduating from the University of Buffalo. At present, Glenn is employed by Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo.

DAR Meeting, May 12
The Beulah Patterson Brown Chapter of the Daughter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet on Saturday, May 12, at 2:00 pm, at the Congregational Church, 34 S. Main Street in Newark Valley. Mrs. Suzanne Hughston will conduct a tour of the church which was founded by Beulah Patterson Brown. Members, guests, and women interested in joining DAR are cordially invited to attend. For car pool information, call Mrs. Mary Buckthal, 687-2582.

Coffee House Evening in Apalachin
A Coffee House will be held on Friday, May 11, from 7:00 to 10:00 pm at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Apalachin. The evening will include music and a variety of other entertainment and feature Greg Pedroza, a well-known storyteller. The Sr. High Youth and others are participating in the fund raiser to benefit Tioga County Habitat for Humanity. Suggested donation is $5.00 per person, or $10 per family. The church is at 1110 Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin.
