Celebration of Earth Day

Where Do We Come From? an interactive drama for children and adults will be performed at the First United Congregational Church in Newark Valley on Sunday, April 29, at 3:00 pm in celebration of Earth Day. Tioga County artists are excited to present this unique drama which integrates narration, movement, music, and the visual arts. Through stimulation of the senses and spirit the audience is visually involved with the creation of art as the narration of the creation of the earth unfolds. A drumming performance and demonstration will introduce the drama.

Kimberlie Arrington, inspired by The Creation by James Weldon-Johnson, wrote Where Do We Come From? specifically for this event. Narration of the text will be by Donna Allen. Dorothy Arrington will interpret the text through movement, while Kathye Arrington, the director, will lead a troupe of young artists in the depiction of the Earth's creation. Meredith Kohn Bocek, harpist, will accompany the performance. Since this drama is intended for children, Kathye Arrington has included children attending the performance in the performance.

Nate Brown and Robert Weinberger, from the world music band Unity Group, will lead the drumming and encourage audience participation.

Two other performances are planned: Sunday, May 6, at 3:00 pm at Faith Church, 27 Beech Road in Apalachin; and Sunday, May 20, at 3:00 pm at a location to be announced in Owego. Refreshments will be served.

This performance is made possible with funding from Decentralization Grants from the New York State Council on the Arts, administered locally by Tioga Arts Grants & Services, in cooperation with the Arts of the Southern Finger Lakes.
