If you want to learn about the latest events at the Newark Valley Historical Society, read about the blacksmith guild, or take a tour of the Farmstead, pay a visit to the society's Web site at www.tier.net/nvhistory. There are over 70 pages of information that can be searched via their index or by keyword. The site welcomed its 10,000th visitor on March 31, 2000.

The Herrick Barn project is well represented with photos of the disassembly, building of the stone foundation, and the raising that took place during Spring Festival in June 1999. In addition there are more than 100 links that enable you to visit sites, companies, and organizations that are working to promote barn history or preservation. A video tape has just been released of the raising and a slide program concerning the project is now available as well.

A wide variety of historical articles can be viewed online on such topics as Blacks, women, immigrants, barns, agricultural, and natural history. One of the latest is "Farm Boys Were a Tough Breed," assembled from oral accounts of local farmers who demonstrated remarkable feats of strength. Be sure to take a look at how you can take advantage or participate in a variety of educational programs that the Newark Valley Historical Society offers.
