4-H Hippology Winners

Hippology? That's the study of horses. Last month, members of the Tioga County 4-H Horse Program placed first in the Novice Division at the South Central Region Hippology contest held at the Chemung County Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Elmira. The winning Hipppology team included Amanda Westbrook of Owego, Danielle Paufve and Nicole Paufve of Apalachin, and Anna Snowden of Lounsberry.

The members were tested in different areas of horse knowledge such as anatomy and confirmation, breeds, diseases, feeds, tack and equipment, and judging. The contest was divided into written, oral, and visual test.

Members of the team also received individual awards in the Novice Division: Danielle Paufve won second place, Nicole Paufve won third place, and Amanda Westbrook won eighth place.
