New Yorkers are expected to save more than $500,000,000 now that there
is no state sales tax on clothing and footwear costing $110 or less. The
tax exemption took effect on March 1, 2000. Fourteen of the state's counties
and all five boroughs of New York City and four other cities are also participating
in the tax exemption. The fourteen counties are Broome, Chautauqua, Chenango,
Columbia, Cortland, Delaware, Greene, Madison, Oswego, Rockland, Schuyler,
and Tioga Counties. "This tax cut will keep hard-earned dollars where they
belong: in the pockets of the New Yorkers who earned them," said New York
State Governor George E. Pataki. "With the permanent exemption, we continue
to lead the nation in cutting taxes so working families can keep more of
their hard-earned money." |
