The day feared by many as being the end of the
world or of civilization as we know it has come and gone without any of
the doom 'n' gloom predictions coming true. The dreaded "Y2K Bug" that
was to have shut down the computers of the world, just did not bite.

Many of us spent the last days
of 1999 preparing for Y2K calamities. We stockpiled bottle water and canned
hams in the basement. We bought generators. At the Kwik Fill, the cars
were lined up into the street waiting to get filled up one last time.
What happened? Did we get the Y2K problem fixed in time? Was it all a big hoax by the computer programmers to create work and make a fortune? At least we can now settle down and calmly wait for the true beginning of the new millennium to start on January 01, 2001. The 21st Century - and the new millennium - cannot begin until the 2000th year is completed on December 31, 2000. In any case, welcome to the 2000s and have a Happy and Prosperous New Year. |
