Alecia Brown on All-Conference Team

Alecia Brown, of Apalachin, took fourth place at the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship meet on October 30 at C. W. Post on Long Island. She was part of the College of Saint Rose women's cross country team. Her time was 26:11.

Alecia was also named to the women's All-Conference Team for her outstanding effort. She is a graduate of Owego Free Academy.


Naturalists' Club Meeting

The Naturalists' Club of Broome County will hold its December meeting on Wednesday, December 8, 7:15 pm at the Vestal Public Library. Bring 10 of your favorite nature slides to share at our member slide night. Or just join us to talk about nature in the Southern Tier.


Diamonds in the Rough

The Awakenings Coffeehouse in Owego presents "Diamonds in the Rough" featuring Jim Blake and Pamela Goddard on Saturday, December 11. They will be performing an assortment of two-voice a capella, from seasonal ballads to eccentric folk. Doors open at 6:30 pm, music at 7:30 and 8:30 pm. Awakenings is at 208 Front Street in Owego.

The students in Broome Community College's (BCC) Esthiology program offer professional skin care and hair removal at greatly reduced prices. Services available include: facials, makeup application, body polish, hair removal, and more. Appointments are available on Thursday evenings and some Saturdays. Forum on Foster Care & Adoption

There will be a community forum on foster care and adoption held in Room 107 of the Tioga County Office Building on Monday, December 20, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm for anyone interested in foster or adoptive parenting. For more information, call the foster care unit at 687-8335.


Volunteers Needed at Open Door Mission

Volunteers are needed throughout early December to pack food baskets and to wrap gifts. Volunteers are also needed on December 11 to set up and serve at the Children's Christmas Party at the Owego Elks Emporium in.

Endicott Man Wins TAKE FIVE

New York Lottery officials announced that Hai Q. Pham of Endicott was one of the two first-prize winners of $73,874 each, for the Tuesday, October 26, 1999, TAKE FIVE drawing. "I can't believe that I won," said Mr. Pham. The TAKE FIVE winning number for that game were 10, 12, 23, 29, and 37. Mr. Pham is the second TAKE FIVE first-prize win in Broome County in the last few months.


Kirkwood Man Wins $1,000 a Week for Life

Don Sollars of Kirkwood recently won $1,000 a week for life in the New York Lottery's Instant Cash game, WIN FOR LIFE. "I left my WIN FOR LIFE ticket on the counter in Pasquale's because I forgot to pick it up after I bought it," Mr. Sollars said. "When my wife sent me back into the store, I found out I was a winner!" Mr. Sollars bought his winning ticket at Pasquale's Deli Plus on Broad Avenue in Binghamton.


Holiday Greetings Luncheon

The Christian Women's Club #1 is having a Holiday Greetings Luncheon on Wednesday, December 15, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the Owego Treadway Inn. The speaker will be Irene Dunham. There will also be music. Cost for the luncheon is $8.50. For information, call Diane at 687-5503.


Breakfast with Santa

Breakfast with Santa to benefit Mom's House will be held on Saturday, December 11, from 8:00 am to 12:00 Noon, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 1263 Vestal Avenue in Binghamton. Pictures with Santa will be taken. Live entertainment by the "Teen Angels." Donations: $3.75 for adults, $2.50 for children, children under five are free. Do you have a car, truck, boat, or RV that you want to get rid of but your dealer says it isn't worth anything? It's worth a lot to the Alzheimer's Association Southern Tier Chapter. Reschke, Huffcut Named All-American

Mansfield University's Gretchen Reschke, a graduate of Owego Free Academy, and Jamie Huffcut, a graduate of Vestal High School, were named second-team All-Americans by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.


'Always on Sunday' Free Concert

The first "Always on Sunday" Concert for the year 2000 will be held on Sunday, January 16, from 2:00 to 3:30 pm, at the Tioga County Historical Society Museum. The concert is free and features pianist Chai-Kyou Mallinson. Seating is limited and tickets are suggested. Get your free tickets at Conti Jewelers, Awakenings, The Hand of Man, and The Tioga County Council on the Arts which is sponsoring the event.
