Town and County Government Watch

Town of Owego

• The Crestview backup well is still being evaluated. Water conservation is still necessary.

• A $400,000 Small Cities HUD grant to help low income families with home repair was obtained for the town.

• The Tobey and Stevens Road projects are moving forward.

Village of Owego

The owner of the Village Garden Center, Frank Catalano, is petitioning the NYSDOT to locate the northern end of the Court Street Bridge project toward Draper Park. The additional lane could go through his business.

• The village board appears ready to add another Deputy Chief to the police department. The stated reason is for on the job training to prepare for Chief Williams next year.

• The village is looking for the owner of the Newark Milk and Cream Company to make the property safe to the public and to clean up the property. It is estimated to cost approximately $50,000 to clean up.

Tioga County

• A county manager will be appointed within the next year at an estimated $70,000 salary.
