At the Apalachin Elementary School

Meet the Teachers Night

I just got home from "Meet the Teachers Night." I feel very lucky because they let me cook hot dogs once again. We had a great working crew and a lot of laughs. We had one hot dog left without a roll because Dick Hammer broke a roll early in the evening and we had to throw it away. He is now on probation on the hot dog line.

The Book Fair Display looked great. There were also some great displays in the gym.

It makes me feel good just to see the happy youngsters, showing off their room and teacher to Mom and Dad. One little girl said to me, "I love school because I've got the coolest teacher ever!" (Good job, Erin!)

Once again our dearest and greatest Senior Citizen of Apalachin, Henrietta Whitney, showed up to see our program. She told me that she gave our principal, Mr. Bill Motsko, an A+. She also checked on Mr. Knapik and said he was doing a fine job just like she taught him years ago. It's sure good to have a teacher check on a past student after many years gone by.

There are so many people to thank for making this night a great success. Without our Parent Group, it wouldn't happen, so please get involved. All you have to say is "I'll help."

A special thanks to two youngsters, Cody Clark and Megan Mroczka, for helping in the kitchen and on the soda line. And even though we ran out of pizza, Scott Fairbanks did a great job.

Please don't forget your sponsors:

Don Davis Meats for hot dogs, Donoli's Restaurant for pizza, Frito Lay for chips, and Coke for soda.

Also, thanks to Fred Brown from the Apalachin Community Press for taking pictures at this event.

We're all there to help AES.

From the Principal's Desk

The 1999-2000 school year is off to a great start. The first theme for the year is "We're Starting Out On the Right Foot." Our cross level team arranged for a highly motivating presenter for our first assembly of the year. Mark Rothstein provided students with an excellent role model as well as with some very worthwhile messages: be drug free; stand up for what you believe is right; and take good care of yourself. I certainly helped all of us to "get off on the right foot."

Thursday, September 30 was Meet the Teacher Night. In addition to the AES staff, we had representatives from many of the youth organizations that serve our youngsters during the year. The event was well attended. Members of our Parent Group and Community representatives assisted by making food available to those that couldn't make it home after children's practices. This is the first of many activities that will take place in AES during the year. Be sure to read our sign as you pass on Pennsylvania Avenue to keep informed as to what is occurring.

We are looking forward to an exciting school year and hope that family, friends, and community members can join with us for one of our many activities.
