The Quarters are Coming! The Quarters are Coming!

Georgia Quarter is Just Peachy

The state quarter honoring the Georgia was released by the US Mint on July 19. It features a peach within an outline of the state with a border of live oak sprigs and a banner with the state motto "Wisdom, Justice, Moderation."

The Georgia quarter is the fourth state quarter to be issued. Quarters for Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey were released earlier this year. They are part of the 50 State QuartersTM Program which honors the 50 states through a new series of circulating quarters. The quarter's reverse (tails) design will change five times per year for the next 10 years to honor each of the states.

There is currently a bill in Congress to include American Samoa, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands in the State Quarters Program. The bill was introduced by Representative Eleanor Holmes-Norton (D-DC) on April 1, 1998. If that bill passes, the program will take 11 years to complete.

The state quarters are manufactured in both Philadelphia and Denver. The proof versions are produced in San Francisco.
