Town of Owego
• A pedestrian/roller blade loop will be installed at Hickories Park. A grant was obtained for $4,500.00 for its construction.
• Construction is scheduled to begin this month on the Dunkin Donuts on Route 434 next to BEAM Electronics in Apalachin.
• Fall elections - Town Board Republicans James Hamlin and Donald Castellucci, Jr. are seeking re-election. Also running are Democrat and Liberal candidates Gloria Whitmore and Ed Arrington. Highway Superintendent - Republican Dave Ferris is seeking re-election. Democrat and Liberal Richard Perkins is also seeking the seat. Supervisor Carol Sweeney, Town Clerk Michael Zimmer, and Judge Robert Henning are running unopposed.
Village of Owego
• Village offices will be moving to the former County Treasurer's Office. The village bid approximately $52,000.
• Sergeant Fred Devita was suspended without pay pending trial for alledgedly falsifying PBA business records.
Tioga County
• The Legislature is once again reviewing the "County Manager" position.
• The county and correction officers finallly reached a three year contract retroactive to 1998.
• Owego rest stop on Route 17 westbound is due to reopen this month.
• The Rural Economic Alliance Program (REAP) recently met and disscused the needs of different towns. Issues such as flood control, infrastructure, transportation, and playgrounds were disscussed as future development needs.
