Brad E. Gordon, winner of Jamie Lane Memorial Scholarship

Jamie Lane

Brad E. Gordon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Gordon of Endicott, is this year's recipient of the Jamie Lane Memorial Scholarship. Each year, the Lane family of Apalachin awards a scholarship to a deserving high school senior to whom drumming is important.

Brad, a graduate of Union Endicott High School, was presented with a check for $1,000 at UE's Honors Night. He is a very talented drummer and participated in the area All State Concert Band and the All State Jazz Band, All County Band. He was section leader in All County Jazz Band. In addition to participating in every junior and senior high school vehicle for drummers, he was in the Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra, Southern Tier Concert Band, Binghamton Symphony Orchestra, Broome Community College Concert Band, and Broome Community College Jazz Band. Brad will be attending Mansfield University in September.

Jamie Lane, in whose memory the scholarship is awarded, was raised in Apalachin and was in business with his brothers at Lane Seamless Gutters but was dedicated to playing the drums. He was active in several local bands. In 1995, Jamie, 28, died suddenly and tragically in an automobile accident. His family and friends raise the money for the scholarship through a golf tournament held each Labor Day weekend at Tall Pines Players Club in Friendsville, Pennsylvania.
