Bug Attack! Bug Attack!
Will Y2K Get Me?

By Al Anderson

An attorney friend of mine who is a partner with a medium - sized law firm that specializes in personal injury cases told me recently, "We are suspending all new calls from hospital and chiropractic patients so that we can spend every waking hour studying the legal issues surrounding Y2K." Of course he is exaggerating - about suspending the calls anyway!

The fact that his eyes were glazed over and he was drooling gives me insight into just how pervasive the Y2K crisis is. No wonder Congress is frantically trying to pass Y2K liability limits.

We are all at risk from the fallout of the Year 2000 problems. Every person with at least one PC or laptop has some issues they must deal with. It is not only your hardware that has a problem - in fact, this may be the least of our problems. Every day more software companies are coming forward and admitting that they too have been bitten by the Y2K bug. Microsoft has even admitted that WIN 98 has problems, not to mention 95 and other versions as well as the NT operating systems. You must address these issues AND also realize the implications of living in a world where so many of our services are inter - dependent.

No matter what you believe about the Y2K bug - whether you think it is a

"yawner" or you think it is the end of the world - there are things you can and should do to prepare. If you are not prepared then you could easily be caught up in a media induced panic, either real or perceived. I assure you, no good will come of panics and those involved.

I have previously explained the nature of the problem and discussed the implications for individuals and small businesses. If you were not paying attention then, and realize now the severity of the problem, go online to my e-zine archive and read previous articles (http://www.y2kEasyFix.com/ e-zine.htm).

Let me share some of the most common questions I get from visitors to my website and from subscribers to this e-zine:

1. My computer system is fairly new, how can I have a problem?

2. My business doesn't use mainframe computers so what is the big deal?

3. I realize that my computer may not recognize the year 2000 but why can't I just go to the date function and change it?

4. Can I test my computer by changing the date to 01-01-2000 and see what happens?

5. Do you think the banking system will fail? And if so what do you recommend doing about that?

6. I've heard that there is a greater than 50% chance that we may lose electric power for days or weeks - can this be true?

The questions go on and there will be more as the year progresses and the

media sensationalizes the Y2K situation. What most people seem to want to know is "What can they do to protect themselves, their family and/or

their business from the consequences of Y2K?"

I HAVE SOLUTIONS FOR YOU. That's right - my concerns and research into the Y2K problems have led me to write a book on what can be done. In it are the answers to all of the above questions and more. Read this book and learn how to fix your computer system. FREE with the book is a test and fix program for your hardware with step - by - step directions. You can't miss - I guarantee anyone can do it.

AND...as I have already mentioned, you must address the problems with your operating system and with your software. I give you everything you need to solve these problems. More importantly, there are specific instructions on how to test your whole system after you implement the fixes.

Included in the book are the following:

* How to protect yourself against a financial collapse,

* What to do to make sure your household is Y2K compliant - check your thermostats, VCR, car, security system, etc.,

* Where and how to get hard copies of all your essential records,

* What issues to address with your employer,

* As an Employer - what issues to address with your employees,

* An overview of the liability and insurance issues for business,

* How to prepare if there is an extended failure of our infrastructure - like, electric utilities, tele- communications, distribution system, fuel, etc.,

* Links to computer and software manufacturer's sites where the latest Y2K patches and upgrades can be obtained,

* A secret members-only page where I offer updates on all this all year long and post new problems and solutions as they are announced. I even have form letters and memos you can personalize and send to your bank or business suppliers or to your landlord or employer.

You know, I have a couple of businesses on the internet and I've been

online a long time. I've seen a lot of extreme predictions about viruses and

lack of "bandwidth" and junk mail and scam artists and "Trojan horses" and mail bombs and so on causing the "death" of the Internet. Mostly, I have concluded these predictions are (were) nonsense. Mainly because they have been either exaggerated or are finite, solvable problems. I WANT TO TELL YOU - Y2K does not fall in either of these categories and must be taken seriously. It may not amount to anything drastic, but the potential is there.

The full scope of the Y2K debacle has not yet been made public and high

tech insiders have already acknowledged that it is impossible to fix all non-compliant systems before 2000-01-01. So, I don't know about you but I will continue to keep abreast of the information available and make personal preparations well in advance of the coming new millennium.

I just hope I will be eating canned spam over a wood fire, drinking bottled

water, using propane lanterns for light, listening to a battery operated radio, sleeping in my arctic sleeping bag at a remote fishing camp ground and NOT IN MY LIVING ROOM - next January.
