Supervisor Sweeney Seeks Re-Election

Carol Binder Sweeney announced her intention to run for re-election as the Republican candidate for the position of Owego Town Supervisor.

Sweeney is currently completing her second two-year term as supervisor. Previously, she served for four years as a councilwoman on the Owego Town Board. She represents the Town of Owego on the Binghamton Metropolitan Transportation Study (BMTS) Policy Committee, the Tioga County Public Transit Advisory Council, and the Tioga County Council of Local Governments. She also serves on the NYS Division for Women Southern Tier Advisory Council and Senator Libous' Southern Tier Rail Merger Advisory Committee.

Sweeney has been honored by being named the 1996 Tioga County Republican of the Year and was also named the Tioga County Federated Republican Club's 1994 Woman of Achievement.

Sweeney states, "During my tenure as supervisor, I have devoted much time and energy to promoting economic development for our town, maximizing interest revenue on the town's funds, containing costs in our town government, pushing for funding for rehabilitation or replacement of bridges in our town, and for adding an additional river crossing, and overseeing the development of a new sewage treatment plant and improvements to our sewer infrastructure. Given another term, I will be able to see some of these projects to completion and continue to work toward the betterment of the Town of Owego."

Sweeney graduated Summa Cum Laude from SUNY-Albany with a B.S. degree in Mathematics. She previously was a high school mathematics teacher and a computer programmer with IBM.

She resides at 23 Alpine Drive in Apalachin with her husband, Stephen, and two sons, Matthew, 17, and Daniel, 15. She has lived in the Town of Owego for more than 29 years.
