Helping Seniors this Winter

Project Blizzard Box

Since 1996, Tioga Opportunities, Inc., Department of Aging Services has been providing a Blizzard Box to each of their Home Delivered Meal recipients to assure that they will not go hungry in the event that adverse weather prevents their daily meal delivery. Each Blizzard Box consists of a three-day supply of shelf stable, easily preparable hot meals.

This program is funded entirely by community support. Each year, churches, community groups, and caring individuals provide the contributions to fund this much needed and appreciated program. Last year, 144 Blizzard Boxes were provided to local senior citizens.

A donation of $10 will provide one senior citizen with a Blizzard Box. Groups or individuals may sponsor any number of boxes. If you or your group would like more information on how you can support Project Blizzard Box, call Mary Vivona, Nutrition Coordinator at the Department of Aging Services, at (607 687-4120.
