4-H Market Steer Project Orientation

There will be a Tioga County 4-H Market Steer Project New Members Orientation Meeting on Saturday, November 7, at 7:30 pm in room 107-108 of the Tioga County Office Building. This program is designed to give youth the opportunity to gain business skills. A youth will start the project with a 400-600 pound feeder calf and raise this calf to market weight, usually 850-1400 pounds. The youth is required to keep management/expense records on their steer and then market the finished animal. If the 4-Her has done his or her homework and studied the market, they should make a profit, although this is not guaranteed and the youth is responsible for finding his or her own buyer. The Market Steers are auctioned off to the highest bidder during the Tioga County Fair at the 4-H Livestock Sale. If you are interested in finding out more about this project call Denise Robinson at 687-4020 or attend the meeting on November 7.
