No Parking In Village of Owego? By Fred J. Brown, Jr.

The State Department of Transportation has finished the paving and re-painting of Front Street in the Village of Owego, after making it virtually impossible to get in or out of the business district for several days this past September. Now that I am finally able to get to downtown Owego, I find a new problem: Where can I park my full-sized (by today's standards!) car?

Someone must have had the idea that there should be more parking spaces in the village. Good idea! The only problem is that because the village did not grow, the only way to get more parking spaces was to make the parking spaces smaller!

Pictured above is a full-sized station wagon parked on the south side of Front Street in front of East of the Sun West of the Moon. Pictured below is a full-sized sedan parked on the north side of Front Street by Chase Manhattan Bank. Both vehicles are LONGER than the parking space!

I first noticed this when I tried to parallel park on Front Street. No way! You can't get a gallon of water into a quart jar.

There are designated parking spots for handicapped drivers. Now it must be time for designated parking spots for full-sized cars.
