Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall
Makes a Stop in Tioga County

The Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall made a stop at Waverly High School's Memorial Stadium from August 28 through September 3. An exact 1/2 scale replica of the original Vietnam Veterans' Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Moving Wall lists the names of our nation's 58,209 lost servicemen from the Vietnam War, including the 1,300 who are still listed as missing.

The Moving Wall is made of aluminum panels and is 253 feet long and six feet tall at its highest point. It is one of three replicas that travel all over the United States and Canada.

As of this January, the Moving Wall has been on display in 584 communities. It is sponsored locally by two veteran groups out of Waverly: the American Legion Post 492 and the VFW Post 8104. The driving force in organizing the display was Robert Owen. At the Wall site in Waverly are a 24-hour honor guard and a computer system to help locate names on the Wall.
