Little People, Big People

Attention parents! This program is open to all three- and four-year-olds and their adult chaperones. Each week, naturalist Eileen Shatara will explore a new nature theme through a variety of activities: hikes, games, stories, show and tell, and arts and crafts. Class size is limited, pre-registration and pre-payment are required. $12 for members, $16 for non-members for the month.
Volunteer Naturalist Training
September 15, 22, 29, Tues, 9am-Noon
All current and new volunteers are encouraged to attend these sessions to learn about the variety of school programming the center offers.
Waterfowl Identification
September 17, Thursday, 6:30-9:30pm
Richard Quest will lead an exploration of waterfowl identification through the use of slides, photographs, video tape, etc. There will be a test at the end of the program. A waterfowl id certificate will be issued to all who pass the test. This program is sponsored by the NYS Department of Environmental conservation. Registration is limited to 25. This program is free.
Waterman Center Elderhostel
September 13 - 18, all day long
If you are interested in learning more about Orienteering, Native Americans and birds, this week-long session may be for you. You must be at least 55 years of age to attend this program. We will meet at Waterman Center each day for a series of classes, field trips, and projects. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required. For more information, call Doug at 625-2221.
2nd Annual Big Island Native American Festival
September 25 -27, Fri - Sun, 10am-6pm
Tioga Park, Nichols, NY
A special weekend filled with drums, singing, dancing, food, and crafts. Friday morning will be opened up for schools, and other organized groups. Dance competition will begin on Saturday morning. Call Waterman center for more details or to volunteer to help out for this special weekend.
