Town of Owego

The Planning Board is examining the potential impact of the proposed Apalachin-Campville Crossing. Some forums for the public to comment will be held in the near future.

A public hearing for the proposed rate change for Lockheed Martin has been postponed until September 15 for Lockheed Martin officials to review new plans. The change is proposed to bring Lockheed in line with other commercial users.

A proposed JiffyLube is in the works at the East Main Street car wash location.

The Apalachin Fire Department is in the preliminary stages of examining the possibility of building a new fire station to replace the one on Pennsylvania Ave.

The Town Board elected to form a citizen committee to come up with possible suggestions to solve the in-line skating problem before taking any action.

Village of Owego

New board member Annette Schweiger has replaced John Mini who had to resign due to health reasons. Also Pat Gavin had to resign to go back to school. Former board member Frank Orlando has been suggested as a replacement.

Limited response has been submitted to the board pertaining on the future of the Marvin Park Pool. Board members are in the midst of the difficult decision to let the pool go in lieu of the new community pool being built and creating another use for the pool site.

Tioga County

The county has received a $40,000 grant from the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets to develop a county Agriculture and Farmland protection plan.

Richard Eads has resigned as Director of Economic Development to take another position. Michael Morse has been hired to fill that position.
