Mom's Wit

By Janet H. Brown

Summer fun has now begun. I have made arrangements for my two weeks of vacation. One week we will stay home and play catch up. There isn't any play involved, mostly household and outside lawn care.

Our 16- year-old son would rather be somewhere else than home when work is involved. I believe he has an allergy to work because he is always, itching to get out of it.

Our 11-year-old daughter will whine about the task I've asked her to do and busy herself with anything except what I told her to do. I've told her time and time again about all that whining, that if she hadn't wasted all that time whining she would have been finished with her task already and playing with her friends.

Once all of our work is done at home, finally, I can sit down and make the last minute arrangements for our trip up north to a theme park. This will leave me with the packing, being sure everyone has enough clean clothes, socks, etc. Whoops, I forgot - we will leave my husband home. He prefers it that way. He states that it is his vacation when we are away from home! Unfortunately, my home won't be in the same condition it was in before I left. He will find something to repair - the big job that was too big to do when we were all home. Meaning we won't be in his way.

I'll have varnish or paint where it doesn't belong, or a light fixture that I can live with, but I would have preferred the one with wood grain, or a new toilet seat that doesn't match the rest of the bathroom but was on sale and such a good deal.

OK, I love summer and all the fun, but, please, let me have a home that functions properly and no big surprises. Have a delightful summer!
