Apalachin's Main St. Bridge to be Repaired Again
Last month, inspectors from the New York State Department of Transportation
(DOT) lowered the weight limit on Apalachin's Main Street Bridge from twenty
tons to three tons because of the deteriorating condition of a support
beam due to rust. Emergency traffic, school buses, and vehicles over three
tons must now use Route 434 and Cross Street as a detour. The Town of Owego
has contracted with a Binghamton firm to make repairs to the bridge during
the first week of June. The work is scheduled to start on June 2 and be
finished on June 4. The bridge will be closed to all traffic while the
repairs are being made. The weight restrictions are expected to be removed
once repairs are completed.
