Dangers of Children Playing Around Curbside Boxes

We love children! They are the backbone of our future. Postal carriers are trained to watch out for children as they deliver their routes, but they need your help. You can help prevent accidents by following these tips:

1. Teach your children not to play around curbside boxes.

2. Make sure the area around your curbside box is clear of any obstructions. Large trash cans, shrubbery, parked cars, and even large toys can prevent children from being seen if they venture near the curbside box to retrieve a toy or pet.

3. Remind children to be alert for screeching brakes or other indications of an accident that may make an impact near the curb.

4. Teach children never to dart out into the road after a ball, or while riding a bike, or playing a game of tag. Toddlers and very young children may not understand the danger. Even older children, who should be more aware of the danger, should be reminded.

5. If you find one of our collection boxes loose, give us a call. We'll see that it's fixed promptly.

A little effort can go a long way toward preventing tragedy. Don't let one moment go unguarded! The life you save may be that of your own child, or the child next door. As a member of your community, please help us guard our nation's most precious resource.
