Ground Water Cleared Of Pollutants

Recent tests by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) on the ground water at the corner of Route 434 and Pennsylvania Avenue in Apalachin have shown NO POLLUTANTS. After a 10-year clean-up process, the DEC will remove the "Air Stripper" (pictured above) that has been filtering pollutants from the ground allegedly caused by Ken's Texaco(pictured below). Over the next year, the DEC will check the ground water from Town Well #4 (located across from Ken's) once every three months. If the water is found to be free from pollutants, the case will be officially closed. Tioga County could take possession of Ken's Texaco and the Surmick Building next to it for back taxes and put them up for public auction.
