Daffodil Days

The American Cancer Society celebrates is 26th annual Daffodil Days March 16-22. The daffodil is the flower of hope - hope that spring is near, and more importantly for area cancer patients, hope that one day soon there will be a cure for cancer.

The American Cancer Society buys acres of flowers, which are then snapped up by local businesses, schools, churches, government offices, shopping malls and thousands of individuals, in return for donations to the American Cancer Society. All the money raised from Daffodil Days go to support local patient services and education and national research.

"All of our programs benefit from the daffodil program," says Carol Williamson, Regional Executive. "The Look Good, Feel Better program, which helps women undergoing chemotherapy regain their appearance; our Road To Recovery program, which helps patients with transportation to their treatments; as well as all of our educational programs and support groups benefit from this important event. The ray of hope each daffodil brings today will impact cancer patients tomorrow."

Bouquets of 10 flowers are available for a $6.00 donation. Hundreds of volunteers are needed every year to help prepare and deliver the flowers. Anyone interested in volunteering or ordering flowers is asked to call the American Cancer Society at (800) 725-3181.
