This two vehicle nearly head on accident occurred on December 2,1997 on route 434, west of Forest Hill Road, Apalachin at about 7am. A 1986 red Pontiac driven by Joyce Hitt (64) of Apalachin, was headed west, was struck by a 1989 blue Plymouth driven by John Bedell (42) of Owego. John Bedell was issued tickets by Tioga County Sheriff Deputy J. Burrell for failing to keep right and obstructed vision. Both drivers were taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City by The Apalachin Fire Department and Owego Fire Department emergency squads, they were treated and released.
