Doctors With A Heart

Saturday, September 13 was "Doctors with a Heart Day" at Dr. Michael Sostowski's office in Apalachin. On that day, Dr. Sostowski provided free dental care for those in our community with urgent dental needs and no money or welfare benefits to pay for them.

Started in 1987, "Doctors With A Heart" has become the largest Doctor Charity in the world. It has been estimated that over 15,000 doctors and their staffs in various health care disciplines parcipate in this day of giving. The program was started in our area last year by Dr. Spera's office in Conklin.

Dr. Sostowski stated, "When we got to our office in the morning, the line of people waiting was nearly out to Route 434. We provided cleanings, x-rays, flouride, sealants, fillings, extractions, and pain relief to nearly forty patients today. One gentleman walked five miles to receive care."

Other local businesses contributed to "Doctors With A Heart Day." Apalachin Pharmary provided prescriptions, Donson Transportation provided free travel for the disabled, and Leventhal & Sons donated some dental supplies. Dr. Sostowski's entire dental team volunteered their time - great job Denise, Anne, Jacquie, Anne, Becky and Elsa! Some friends and patients also pitched in - Larry, Liza, Jenica, Laura and Belinda - Thanks. Also, Tammy from Ed's Dental Lab in Endicott.

It was a hectic, but very rewarding day for all.
