Edward L. Arrington Announces Candidacy
for Owego Town Board
- by Edward L. Arrington

My wife, Dorothy, and I have resided in the Town of Owego for the past twenty-seven years. Our four children: Kathey, Karen, Edward Jr., and Kimberley, grew up in our town and went through the Owego-Apalachin school system.

From 1970 to 1984, I worked for IBM Federal Systems as an engineer, chemist, quality engineer and manager. During this time, I gained experience negotiating contracts with government officials on a federal level. Since 1984, I have worked in engineering and management positions with Endicott Substrate Manufacturing, Clark Manufacturing and Laminate Chip Garners, and have been responsible for budgeting and developing the manufacturing processes in these businesses.

I have been active in the community and my church, serving on the Owego Planning Board, the Baden Powell Boy Scout Council , as Assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 57, Vice-President of the Tioga County Boy's Club Board of Directors and Teener League baseball manager. As an American Baptist, I have held offices at both state and local levels, and was previously Chairperson for the First Baptist Church of Owego's Board of Trustees.

Owego is an excellent community and a great place in which to raise children, and has made a positive impact on my wife, myself and our four children. Owego, however, like all communities, needs people willing to contribute time and energy to address pressing issues, such as the rising cost of local government and finding the most cost-effective approaches to delivering necessary services. These challenges require an individual willing to seek and implement new ideas while addressing the needs of all constituents.

Therefore, I am announcing my candidacy for the Owego Town Board. I will bring to the Board over eighteen years of experience at resolving engineering, management, budgeting, and contract negotiation issues. My goal is to find ways to reduce the tax burden of our residents while continuing to provide essential services. I will take a business-like approach to the job.
