Apalachin Fire Department
Chief's Corner Apalachin Firemen's Field Days
Thursday enjoy games for young and old from the Duck Pond to the Big Six, and an incredible selection of food. Chicken Bar-B-Que, steamed clams, spiedies, hot sausage with peppers and onions, cheese steak sandwiches, and pizza or pizza frittes, plus ice cream, pie, and more can be had, all in one location. Friday night, join us for food, rides and games, all leading up to a spectacular fireworks display beginning at 10:00 pm. Saturday begins with the Little Miss Apalachin contest, beginning at 12:00 Noon in the Food Pavilion. This event is open to girls ages 8 - 9 who are residents of the fire district. A One-Price-Ride Special is available1:00 to 5:00 pm. At 6:00 pm Saturday, the Fire Department hosts the Annual Firemen's Parade. This event draws marching bands, drum corps, floats and marching groups from all over New York and Pennsylvania, as well as marching groups from our own community. For fire apparatus aficionados, it's a great chance to see a terrific array of trucks, and the kids love it! Advanced sale ride tickets are available through June 5 at the Apalachin Pharmacy on Rt. 434 and at the Vestal Dollar Store. We look forward to seeing everyone there! Did You Know?
The Apalachin United Methodist Church offers delicious desserts in the Pie Booth. The Lions slave over hot kettles to bring you Clam Chowder and Salt Potatoes. Ladies, it's worth the trip just to see how much fun these guys have cooking! The Boy Scouts staff the Penny Pitch, and funds raised by the Apalachin Library at the Cats Booth comes back to the community by supporting reading programs for kids and other literacy projects. The Apalachin Youth Football League, TCYSSA, Traci's Hope, and Girl Scouts have all benefitted from the Field Days. Let's not forget the members of the Apalachin Fire Department Auxiliary, working long hard hours in the Food Pavilion and Balloon and Raffle Booth, as well as supporting our firefighters during all of our activities. Some volunteers are from organizations, and some are private citizens, such as the members of the Pierce, Olevano, and Race families who have staffed the Soda Booth for many years. Without the contributions of neighboring fire and EMS departments it would be almost impossible to have this event and still provide the emergency coverage that is our primary reason for existence. The Fire Department appreciates the time and talent of all these community members who have made this event such a resounding success all these years. Please come support our whole community at the 2009 Firemen's Field Days!
