Alpacalachin Farms is open to the public for the 4th Annual Harvest Festival, "Get Your Hands on Alpaca" on Monday May 25, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Alpacalachin Farms is located at 2571 Chestnut Ridge Rd. in Apalachin. Admission is free. Come learn about the many uses of alpaca fiber. Demonstrations from shearing & cleaning fleece to creating a finished product will occur all day long. Demonstrations of agility training will be provided and participants will be able to try their skill and luck on the obstacle course at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, & 3:00 pm. Craft your own fiber project. Call 687-6950 for more information. The Tioga County Active Living Partnership will be conducting a conference for anyone interested in learning more about creating and sustaining community trails. The event will be held at the Susquehanna River Archaeological Center, 345 Broad Street, Waverly, on Wednesday, May 27, 9:30 am to 2:00 pm. The cost is $15 per person, and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Indian Hills Girl Scout Council Service Unit 610 is accepting donations of Girl Scout Cookies to send to our service men and women in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Vestal Elks Lodge 2508 will be shipping the cookies to the troops. For information on donating call Theresa Sarnoski at (607) 725-3730. The 2009 Tioga County 4-H Farm Safety and Tractor Operator Certification Program was completed by the following area youth, who have earned a tractor operator certificate: Michaela Alexander, Barton; Austin Blinn, Candor; Alex Boughton, Owego; Rachel Boughton, Owego; Connor Bryant, Owego; Jordan Evans, Newark Valley; David Hamley, Barton; Tyler Kwiatkowski, Owego; Teresa Lewis, Barton; Chris Lilly, Spencer; Brandon Smith, Spencer; Ben Swagler, Berkshire; and Trevor Yarrington, Candor. Morgan Evans, Newark Valley, successfully completed the course up to the driving portion, but was not old enough to be eligible for the driving test and to receive a certificate.
