• 58th Opening Day
Owego Little League's 58th Opening Day is Saturday, May 2. Three hundred Little League baseball, tee-ball and girls softball players look forward to their downtown parade, opening ceremonies and five diamonds in use for a full day of games.

Parade Marshall John Loftus wants players to report between 8:00 and 8:20 am to their team banner position on Temple Street in front of the Owego Police Station.

Parade steps off at 8:29 am and its route is up North Avenue to George Street to Hyde Park. Along the way players will give a Thank You Salute to motorists patiently waiting at intersections.

Master of Ceremonies Jim Raftis starts Opening Day Ceremonies at 9:00 am for the 42nd season on Hyde Park's Nick Raftis Memorial Field.

All sing the National Anthem; Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan veterans raise the American and POW/MIA flags. Players recite the Little League pledge. "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" is sung by Owego Elementary students.

President Ken Winters introduces his staff. VP Debi Schmidt and VP-Softball Mark Warfle introduce their baseball and softball teams. "Play Ball" follows ceremonial first pitches for all leagues.

• Call for Volunteers
Volunteerism by parents and adults is the key to a successful season. Volunteer to coach, keep score, be a team mom, play National Anthem/Little League pledge before games, plate or base umpire, concession worker, open and close Hyde Park one night a week, building and grounds – prepare fields for play and rake them after games, 50-50, or bath room attendant to clean toilets and wash sinks.
