End of an Era
(Written February 1, 2009)

This 1949 RCA Victor 10" TV once received signals from WNBF-TV Channel 12  in Binghamton. Sixty years later, it will become obsolete on February 17, 2009

1928 - the first experimental broadcast of TV takes place in Schenectady, NY
1939 - commercial broadcasting begins during the World's Fair, using the new  525 line high-resolution.
1949 - WNBF Channel 12 in Binghamton begins broadcasting, serving the Southern-Tier of New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania.
2009 - The end of analog TV (scheduled for February 17, 2009). All TV stations will begin "Digital Transmission"  (DTV).

The days of snowy and ghosty TV will be gone.  With DTV, you either get it or you don't. If you do not have cable you must now get a new TV or a converter box.
