| Free Tax Assistance
Free tax assistance from AARP will be provided either at a walk in sites (first come first served) and by appointment only sites in Tioga County. Although primarily designed for taxpayers age 60 and older, those younger than 60 with low to moderate income are also welcome. Taxpayers should bring a copy of their 2007 tax return, all W-2s, 1099s, and any other statement reflecting their income and deductible expenses, including property tax receipts, charitable donation receipts, medical expenses, mortgage payments, child care expenses, etc. Tax returns are computer generated and e-filed for a quick turn around and refund. In rare cases, where the taxpayer has an objection or an e-file is not permitted, a paper return for mailing will be generated. In all cases the taxpayer will receive a hard copy of their return. The AARP tax counselors are trained by the IRS and will be at the following sites until mid April. These sites will follow the local school districts in regard to delays or closings. Walk In Sites
