December 2001 - Hundreds of area residents came out to bid their final farewell to Owego's Court Street Bridge at a ceremony held during "Light Your Way to Christmas" on December 7, 2001. A parade (above) of officials, residents, antique vehicles, and horse-drawn carriages made a final, ceremonial crossing. Catherine Hunt, who was the first person to cross the bridge in 1933, was the last person to cross the bridge during the ceremony.
The bridge was closed to all traffic on January 17, 2002, and demolition of the bridge was begun.
