Local VFW plans open house to share memories The Glenn A Warner Post 1371 VFW, 207 Main Street in Owego, will hold an open house at 2:00 pm on Sunday, December 7, in remembrance of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Everyone is invited to attend the open house and share memories of where they were when the news came over the radio of the Pearl Harbor attack. On Sunday, December 7, 1941, Japanese planes attacked the United States Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory, killing more than 2,300 Americans. The U.S.S. Arizona was completely destroyed and the U.S.S. Oklahoma capsized. Three other ships sank, and many others were damaged. More than 180 aircraft were destroyed. The next day, President Roosevelt, addressed a joint session of Congress, and called December 7 "a date which will live in infamy."
