Dollars for
Scholars Golf Ball Drop Winner
The Owego-Apalachin (OA) Dollars for Scholars 2nd Annual Golf Ball Drop was a success. The winner of $1,000 was Linda Brisson of Owego. OA Dollars for Scholars would like to thank everyone who purchased a ticket and worked hard to make this a success in such a short time. The Owego Fire Department deserves a big "thank you" for all their fundraising help and donating their time for the actual "golf ball drop". Their help was beyond expectations and everyone appreciates the time they devoted to the event. OA Dollars for Scholars is proudly launching its 16th year of expanding educational opportunities for local students. Last year, they awarded scholarships to 25 students. With rising college costs and reductions in federal assistance, local scholarships for students have become increasingly important. Owego Apalachin Dollars for Scholars President, Fran Tirinato, stated "We should be very proud to know that our Owego Apalachin Dollars for Scholars Program is the only one in Tioga County. Our goal is to financially help as many of our OFA graduates as we can every year. Our community has continued to be supportive towards this goal!"
