Rosenberg Scholarship Awarded

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) Board of Directors awarded the Finkle Rosenberg $2,000 scholarship to Owego Free Academy High School graduate Kristin Frampton (pictured). She will be pursuing a degree in physical education and is attending Broome Community College.

While in high school, Kristin was a very active member of the choral program participating in Concert Chorus, Women's Chorus and Satin Dolls. She served as Student Council Vice President, was a member of the National Honor Society, President of SADD, the Yorkers Club and Varsity Club. She played Field Hockey and Lacrosse all four years. Kristin also worked for a local optometrist and did volunteer work during the summer at the Guthrie Clinic.

In her application she stated, "I have had the opportunity to observe many teachers and they inspired me to become one. I love children and want to have a positive impact on their lives. When children are teens they need to have good role models and that is how I want to impact future children. I want to make a difference in their lives and help educate children to become responsible adults."

Finkle Rosenberg, a former OFA teacher who taught from 1937 to 1977, established this scholarship fund at the CFTT. She dedicated her life to education and to encouraging young people to fulfill their potential by pursuing further education after high school. During her forty-year career she served as president of the Owego Apalachin Teachers Association, chairperson of the social studies department, and secondary social studies coordinator for the Owego Apalachin school district. She was one of the first honorees on the Owego Apalachin Wall of Fame.

The purpose Ms. Rosenberg had in establishing this scholarship was to help college bound students with their expenses such as tuition, room and board, and books. This scholarship is awarded every year to an Owego Free Academy graduate who plans to go into the education field.

The Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers (CFTT) is a non-profit public foundation established in 2002 by a diverse group of local leaders and residents. The Foundation encourages community philanthropy to enhance the quality of life for those who reside in Bradford, Sullivan and Tioga Counties in Pennsylvania and Tioga County in New York State. It establishes endowment funds for charitable purposes from contributions of citizens, corporations, other foundations, charitable organizations and government agencies. As the endowment funds grow, it uses the interest earned on these funds to make grants to organizations or projects that serve identified community needs.
