BPW Club Celebrates 60 Years
![]() The event began with Master of Ceremonies, Toni Scarinzi's discussion of the red purse, a symbol of how women are still in the red when it comes to employment and comparative incomes. Those in attendance included current New York State President of BPW, Neale Steiniger attending from Staten Island. Also representing the state BPW Board was Debra Carlin New York State Secretary of Oxford. District VI was represented by BPW District VI District Director Robin Allen of Binghamton BPW and District VI Assistant Director Gloria Hutchings of Montour Falls. The club was honored to have in attendance two Past New York State Presidents, Betty Lamonaco and Linda Winston. Owego club Past Presidents in attendance were Janet Brown (2005), Meredith Bocek (2000), Karen Kretsch (1998), Ada Ruth Ace (1996), Arline Coffelt (1992), Eleanor Monroe (1990), Jane Darling (1988), Julia Sexton (1986), Lynda Johnson (1984), Marilyn Ochs (1983), Helen Pinny (1977), and Phyllis Rymell (1964). A gift of a centerpiece flower arrangement was given to each past president. Also recognized were the past Women of the Year in attendance: Julia Sexton (2003), Karen Kretsch (1996), Pam Pringle (1995), Florence Campbell (1992), Lynda Johnson (1991), Ada Ruth Ace (1988), and Marian Rutan (1984). Neale Steiniger the New York State President and Owego President Kathleen Pernice inducted two new members, Toni Scarenzi and Kelly Crampton. After a quiet dinner with beautiful harp music by Meridith Bocek, owner of the Harp Studio, current President of Owego BPW Kathleen Pernice gave a brief history of BPW and "What BPW Has Done for You." This was followed by the keynote presentation on Pay Equity by New York State BPW President Neale Steiniger. The final event of the evening was a walk thru time with women's fashions from the years 800 to 2008. The show focused on how clothing changed along with history. The emphasis was that while many changes have been made for women in the US, there are still many areas where more work is needed, and pay equity is high among them.
