Re-Zoning Public Hearing

Last month’s Town of Owego public hearing on rezoning of property on Glann Road in Apalachin saw an overflowing crowd at the County Office building. Over 250 people packed the county auditorium with over 300 others turned away and left standing in the hallways. An overwhelming majority spoke out against the rezoning. It is evident that those who spoke did not want the zoning change based on the potential for the property values to go down, and the fact that when they purchased their property the zoning only allowed single family housing in the area. The change to multi-family housing would cause the property value and character of the area to change, and not for the good. The Town Board will vote on the rezoning at their October 7 meeting.
