Apalachin Lions Club
Sponsored the A-team for 25 Years

In September of 1983, the Apalachin Lions held their inaugural Special Olympic training session with six coaches and one lone athlete. In June of 1984 they closed their first year, after training and competing in six different sports, with a picnic attended by a roster of now eight athletes and their families.
Twenty-five years later, the club's roster contains 53 athletes and a staff
of ten coaches, and they still close every year with a family picnic (as seen in the above photo). Athletes, coaches, and family members compete in three-legged races and water balloon tosses for trophies before sitting down to a pot luck dinner.
The Apalachin Lions sponsored Special Olympic A-team draws from a large geographic area and has athletes covering a wide spectrum of ages and skill levels. Anyone with an interest in joining can call John or Gae Crosby at
