The Public's Right to Know
On Monday, June 9 at 7:00 pm, Tioga Women for Democracy are sponsoring an event focusing on the public's right to know. The event will be held at the Hubbard Auditorium in the County Office Building at 56 Main Street, Owego.
Bob Freeman, Executive Director of the Committee on Open Government, will be the guest speaker.  The Committee, a unit of the NYS Department of State, provides advice and guidance concerning the state's Freedom of Information and Open Meetings Laws.
Note that this is not the county council on government which meets locally.
Freeman will offer a brief overview of public rights of access to government records and meetings, and the work of his office, and respond to questions from the audience for the duration of the session.  The public, government officials, and representatives of the news media are invited to attend.
