Summit
on the Commission on Local Government Efficiency
Councilman Donald Castellucci, Jr. and Supervisor Tim Whitesell, Town of Binghamton, held a dinner meeting on April 10 at the Polish Community Center in Binghamton regarding former Governor Eliot Spitzer's Commission on Local Government Efficiencies. Over 70 local and state officials were in attendance. The purpose of the meeting was to inform local government officials just what the Commission's recommendations would mean to the running of local government now and in the future. Chair of the Commission, John Clarkson, spoke and was followed by Executive Director of the NYS Association of Towns, Jeff Haber. Both sides of the issues were debated and all in attendance received valuable information regarding both sides of the issue. The message was sent loud and clear that local government was the most efficient government for the residents and that the State should create their own efficiencies before "suggesting" to local officials how to better run their governments. The meeting was a great success. The Association of Towns will soon have available a report regarding issue. Also the Commission is due to release its findings on April 30.
