Observations from the Hill
by H. H. "Hub" Brown I don't know whether I should attempt to write this one or not for this Macular Degeneration is really taking its toll. Besides that, the sides that the window that usually shows me what I have written isn't working so I don't have to hesitate for too long or I'll forget what I've written. Lost my balance the other morning down at Joe's getting into Jim's car. None of the Coffee Club members drink anything but coffee, at that time in the morning, anyway. I started to back up but couldn't go fast enough to catch up and fell and broke a glass in Joe's window, got a bump in my back, and threw my little finger out of joint and popped the end of my finger. As my blood and my skin are so thin, I was bleeding all over Joe's sidewalk. Instantly, Joanne and Ira appeared with first aid and wrapped up my finger and stopped the blood. Jim was able to get me an appointment with Dr. John Perestam. He and his wife worked on me for about an hour. He found that my head wasn't on my neck bone right and put my finger back in joint, and worked me all over. I would like to say that I feel like a new man, but really I still feel old. I'm still hoping I will be able to do some work in my garden. Jim Hines came and rototilled it yesterday so it's as fine as silk now. My granddaughter Laurie has offered to take
me to visit daughter Norma and
Here a couple or three weeks ago I wrote Lutie and said I wished someone out there would sit down and write and tell me what was going on out there. To my surprise, I got a handwritten note from Lutie. Said that daughter Kim and Nicolas were vacationing in the Carolinas. When they got back and heard about it they sent me a card that each had written a message. See I don't try to keep up on E-mail. Here a couple months ago I misquoted Tony Eastwood. I said that he told me that blue birds winter in Brazil. I was thinking about hummingbirds but made a mistake and said it was blue birds that winter in Brazil but it's the tiny hummers that winter there. Trees here on the hill are slow in putting out leaves. We could use a good rain. Seems strange to see so few woodchucks on these hills, the coyotes have certainly reduced their numbers. Three of my family that are the most helpful are having to take treatment. Pat is taking therapy for her broken ankle, Jim has began treatment for his gimpy knee by a doctor who treats without the use of a knife. And Fritz has started a new treatment for his heart. Now I'll have to use my new seeing aid and see what I've written.
