Pancake Breakfast
Our semi-annual pancake breakfast will be held on Sunday, May 4, with our famous home fries, pancakes, French toast, sausage, scrambled eggs, coffee and juice. Our squad will be on hand with free blood pressure screening and information booklets. Our firefighters will be happy to give anyone a tour of our house and equipment. There will be applications available for new members to sign up and join us. Be sure to mark your calendars with the date. We look forward to seeing you there.

Training
Campville members have been busy training this past month. Our OSHA requirements have been updated. Members who are training to be green tags, (interior firefighters), were able to complete some training at the station and at the burn building in Vestal. Most of our young apprentices have turned 18 and are able to move on with their training. The age requirement for green tags is eighteen.

Campville members, Kevin Ford, Jenn Ford, Pat Mercer, Carl Laposky, Andrew Daniel, Mark Daniel, Diana Ford, Mike Peters and Ken Schneider, attended "No Ice Is Safe" training by the Life Guard Systems. They all successfully completed the course and are certified as instructors.

State instructors spent a weekend at the station and at Ford pond training members for ice/cold water training at a technical level. We had members from Apalachin and Candor join Campville for an intensive training. It was cold enough on the pond both days to train on safe ice and the training was a huge success.

Squad member Pat Hickey attended the FASNY EMS Seminar at Montour Falls for two days of education. Updates from the Department of Health and training scenarios were included in the two days.

Squad Lt Rosemary Kotski and squad member Ed Kotski attended a Fire Rehab session at Montour Falls. New regulations from the NFPA and FEMA are coming into effect concerning the welfare of firefighters at the scene of a fire. The squad sets up a safe area where firefighters come in to the ambulance or a safe place, have their vital signs taken, are monitored, receive liquids and rest until they are fit to go back and fight the fire. If there is a problem they are transported to the hospital.

Updating and refreshing squad members for CPR and AED were the highlight of squad training this month. Campville CPR Instructors Ruthanne Phelps and Pat Hickey were able to oversee two new instructors, Paul Alexander and Krista Forkes, during the class. The squad was also able to have hands on with the new zoll monitors.

We also had our brush fire equipment out for inspection and training.
Safety and training are ongoing and we thank our volunteer members for their time and dedication to the department.

Reminder
Reminder: Did you remember to change the batteries in your smoke detectors when you changed your clock for daylight savings time last month? A simple change of a 9 volt battery can safe your life.
