October 29, 1934 - February 7, 2008 83 yrs., 3 mos., 9 days June M. Boardman joined her "guy" in the arms of God on Thursday, the 7th of February, at 11:36 a.m. at the Licking Park Manor in Licking, Texas County, Missouri. Son, Allen, was at her side and was inspired by the peace evidenced as a gift from God. We thank God for the gift of her life. As wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, co-worker, confident, and friend; she touched many. June was born October 29, 1924, 1:30 p.m., in Fargo, North Dakota to proud parents Jay Robert and Mina Augusta (Christensen) Cornell. The family moved back to the Cornell's home state of New York during the "Dust bowl" days of the early 1930s, and June graduated from the Nichols High School of Nichols, Tioga County, New York in 1942. She married her "guy", Edward Allen Boardman, on August 23, 1942 in Owego, Tioga County, New York. Edward died in Vietnam on April 1, 1968; he was of the North Orwell, Bradford County, Pennsylvania family. She is survived by her six children: Barbara Ann Rimbach, and husband Louis, of Salisbury, Maryland; Linda Louise Watts, and husband Garry, of Tryon, North Carolina; Andrea Kathryn Lake, and husband Leo, of Fallston, Maryland; Allen Jay Boardman, and wife Biserka, of Licking, Missouri; Carol Beth Adams, and husband Jim, of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; James Edward Boardman, and wife Jody, of Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. Also surviving are sister, May Irene Bunts, and husband Larry, of Nampa, Idaho; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. As an "Army wife" June spent much of her life in different countries and states. She was a prolific letter writer, communicating with friends and family around the globe. One of June's passions was to surround her family with history; her favorite pastime being sightseeing the castles, cathedrals, chateaus, and gardens of Europe. Both Ed and June loved traveling. June raised her children in the Methodist Church, maintaining membership in diverse locations over many years. She was last a member of the Licking United Methodist Church in Licking, Missouri. Though her mind and body grew frail, she remained faithful. She especially enjoyed the music of the church. Tennessee Ernie Ford's rendition of "The Old Rugged Cross" played on her cassette player as she passed. It was accompanied by the bedtime prayer she'd taught her children: "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my child to keep, and if I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take." June loved books and reading. She'd completed a M.A. in Library Science from Shippensburg University of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and served as a medical librarian at the Rosewood Center near Reisterstown, Maryland. She retired in 1988. Above all else on earth, June loved her family. Now, Ed's "gal" has gone home. A memorial celebration will be held by the family in Pennsylvania while her cremains will be buried above her husband in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
