Arrington to Run for Mayor

Former Village of Owego Mayor Ed Arrington has announced that he will run for mayor again this year.  Mr. Arrington was mayor in 2004 and 2005 and narrowly lost his bid for reelection in 2006.

Mr. Arrington's Concerned Taxpayers Party will field a full slate of candidates for Trustee positions.  Adam Jung of 22 Fulton Street, Shannon Barbuto-Lewis of 204 E. Temple Street, and Grace Thomas of 15 Temple Street will campaign for the positions.

All of the candidates are concerned that the village is not giving law enforcement enough resources to address critical public safety problems. These problems are lowering property values in affected neighborhoods and contributing to declining village tax base.

Candidates are also against village plans to hire a Village Administrator.  They see the position as unnecessary and expensive.  Mr. Arrington said that "the present Clerk Treasurer and Deputy have kept the Village financials accurately and problem free for the past 15 years.  You don't need to fix something that isn't broken."

Village elections are March 18, 2008. Last day to register to vote is March 7, 2008.
