Tax Aide Program
Free tax assistance from AARP will again be available at several locations in Tioga County. Assistance will be provided either at a walk-in site, first come first served; or an appointment only site. Although the AARP Tax Aide program is primarily designed for taxpayers age 60 and over, those under 60 with low to moderate income are also welcome. Taxpayers are asked to bring a copy of their 2006 tax return, all W-2x, 1099s, and any other statements reflecting their 2007 income and deductible expenses, including property tax receipts, charitable donation receipts, medical expenses, mortgage payments, child care expenses, etc. The returns are computer generated and E-filed for a quick turn around and refund. In rare cases, where the taxpayer has an objection or an e-file is not permitted, a paper return for mailing will be generated. In all cases the taxpayer will receive a hard copy of their return. The AARP tax counselors are trained by the IRS and will be at the following sites beginning in February until mid April. These sites will follow the local school districts in regard to delays or closings. The Tioga County sites are as follows:
