Annie's
Corner
Women's Lib Stepping Back by Anne O. Stout Women have always had to fight for equal treatment, whether it is in the workplace, or just to get the right to vote. After all this battling why are there so many damsels in distress these days? I mean as marriages and relationships come and go, these desperate women play helpless around other women's men or spouses, and think nothing of begging for help. A woman is quite capable of fixing items around the house such as vehicles or the plumbing; and if she truly has no concept of what to do or where to start she can always call on professionals, they are in the yellow pages under almost any work you may need to have done. I know a woman who seems to be going from relationship to relationship and it seems only to get help with her house; hence she dates men like contractors and carpenters and gets what she wants done at discount, or even free in some cases. Course she might be paying in other ways, I don't ask but after a failed marriage, I do know she wants no commitment, or anything lasting, just help. Fair to the men? Had a neighbor once that was newly divorced with three kids and she thought nothing of borrowing the husbands in the neighborhood for everything from a clogged drain to building a sand box for her kids. Whatever was needed she felt justified in asking others, to the point many neighbors stopped talking to her. Wives forbid their husbands to help, it was all very sad. Guess she never heard or had the desire to prove she could make it on her own. Within a year of the divorce she was already walking down the aisle, committing to another man. These helpless women, the damsels in distress, are putting women's lib back a bit, giving it a bad name. I mean I know wives that have spouses that do more for themselves then these women who suddenly find themselves alone. Guess they never heard the quote, "a woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." Think about it! Arise damsels, you can make it on your own if you try. A phone book is also helpful as well. The
